Opportunity Does Not Knock
Wintergreen transfer/Acrylic on paper, 2012.

Wintergreen oil was a magical medium to come across for me. I greatly enjoyed the instant gratification of it and the ability to create a collage-like piece. During this time I was definitely drawn to doors. The details that are put into some doors when they were made is amazing. Doors brought to mind decisions. All and any decisions that can be made are hard ones. I am a very indecisive person, but at this point I think I was feeling strong. I was in the mind set of, "You need to go after what you want". Along with wintergreen oil, I used acrylic paint to add color.

Mixed Media, 2013.

This collage is a mash up of painted paper, plastic, parchment paper, wintergreen transfers, thread and staples. The inspiration came from my first plane ride, a night flight from Boston to Chicago. As we flew over the city, it reminded me of a jewelry box of greens and yellows. I translated the cities into colors and textures and mapped my journey out.

Another journey idea I worked with during this time was the lose of my dog. The colors, forms, and state of the piece represented to me the process and lose of his life. I don't believe I had really dealt with his passing until then. Being away from home, I wasn't faced with it everyday. When I thought of home, and returning, I almost forgot he was gone, even though it was one of the worst things I have witness and been a part of in my life.
I used this piece as a sort of punching bag. I followed what I had wanted to do in my art; I stopped treating it as a precious thing that could not be harmed. The materials used were color aid paper, plastic netting, string, wintergreen oil transfer, staples, and fire. I melted this piece and set it on fire.
